on the internet: atheism rising

Read “More Atheists Shout It From the Rooftops” at NYTimes.com.

If you can’t read the article, you’ll have to register…but it’s free and pretty quick, so do it!

I’ve come to realize that there isn’t a lot of good news about Christianity that I post to the site. I’ll work on that…if you have any sources for good things happening in Christianity, let me know!

This article was interesting to me for a couple of reasons. One was with the quote:

And now parents were coming out of the woodwork asking for family-oriented programs where they could meet like-minded nonbelievers.

Though secularists will deny it, saying things like “atheism is not a religion, it’s the absence of religion,” this article shows me even more that secularism is indeed its own religion, but it’s one that doesn’t have fellowship built into its fabric, and people can get lonely.

The photo that accompanied the article made me bristle a bit. I’m all about unbelievers coming to church, but for them to lead people in worship? Man, that doesn’t seem right. If someone wants to tell me how they justify that, please, because I simply do not see it.

Finally, the multimedia graphic showed the advance of identified non-believers, saying that 15 percent of Americans now identify themselves as such. I’m mixed about this. It’s sad that more and more people are identifying themselves as such, but I’m willing to bet that a far greater percentage of Americans aren’t going to heaven anyways…these people are just being authentic about it. Be hot or cold, not lukewarm, right?

A good article all the way though. Read it and comment here! Or comment there, but be careful - my heart was breaking as I read some of the comments there. Some people really need to know the truth about Jesus!

Cheers,
Brendan
