on the internet: sex sells

ABC News has an interesting article about sex and advertising. It’s more rampant than ever, but advertisers see no reason to stop.

“The rub among the adults is ‘is this good taste?’” said ad executive John Klein. “Given more of a traditional background one would have to say no. But, then, it doesn’t matter anymore.”

That about sums it up. But it’s a good read. What I thought was interesting was that American Apparel almost chose to brand themselves as eco-friendly, but decided to sell with sex and sexy instead. And it works…really well.

If it’s something that we as Christians disagree with, what should we do about it, if anything?

The main thing we can do at this current time is boycott. That’s how the free market ideally works - if something about a product (including advertising) is disliked by consumers, then the product/service won’t be sold effectively.
