on the internet: saint batman?
I found this article because a Facebook friend had posted it. I’m generally not that into pulling spiritual stuff out of movies that really don’t have a lot of spiritual intentions, but this was good.
It’s about the latest Batman film and the Joker’s ideology in it. He is whimsical, chaotic, but he has a credo and he sticks to it completely. The author of this article examines his ideology and how Batman engages him, not in a battle of good versus evil like so many movies out there, but as order versus chaos, absolutism versus relativism. The article culminates with this:
Yes, the world needs a witness to the truth, the goodness and the beauty of reality; a witness to the order of creation; a witness to the enduring reason through which all things were made; a witness with a human face.
He doesn’t say that the answer in the real world is Jesus, but he comes close enough to make this a great read.

“The answer to the lethal relativism of the Joker is the witness of the one who testifies to the reality of the moral order by his own willingness to sacrifice for it.”
Very nice article about the archetype of Jesus in film, without even saying it directly.
