on the internet: the downside of wealth and power

There’s a site out there called The Daily Beast. Its “Cheat Sheet” is a great, quick way to get the big national and international headlines in one place. They do a lot of editorials, too. Plenty are skippable for numerous reasons, but every once in awhile a gem of a post comes along.

“What the Richest Men in the World Don’t Know”

This is a fascinating article that looks at the lives of some of the wealthiest men in business just before the Great Depression happened. It’s interesting to see how there are plenty of similarities between then and now (bank struggles, government intervention, etc.), and it’s interesting to see how everything turns out.

The author, Barbara Goldsmith, makes the point that pursuing wealth is a lot like pursuing drugs or alcohol…good at first, fun, successful, happy; but then, it becomes an addiction, and it can really destroy a person’s life.

Good read!
