update: new anti-spam installed

Hello, Internet audience!

Comment spam is a problem that everyone with a blog or webzine has to face. Every single comment gets filtered so the reader doesn’t know about the problem, but I had 349 spam messages in January and 432 spam messages so far in February ever since I opened up comments to everyone.

Wading through these was kind of fun for awhile, but it’s tough to bear. I read them all because I don’t want to miss a real comment, so I have to wade through ads for drugs, pornography (a lot of it nastier than the run of the mill stuff), and other equally pointless things.

I just installed a spam filter to block out the automated spam bots that hit my site. It’s called WP-Spamfree, and it says it’ll get rid of just ab0ut all of the automated stuff. But, as a new adoptor of it, I am skeptical of its claim to only filter out the bots.

If you submitted a comment and you don’t see it on the site in a weeks’ time, please, please, please let me know! I don’t want to miss anyone’s comment.

Thanks and Cheers,
Brendan
